Shelley Gooch-Smith's race report as she wins first lady!
The Black Rhino Mara 26.2m/4600ft š„ššāāļø

Held on 28/06/25 in super hot and hilly conditions. Mercury hit about 29degs at the finishš”ļøš„µāļø. 2x Half Marathon laps over Mickleham Downs, Headley Heath, Mole Valley Rover and Stepping Stones and up Box Hill. 2300ft a lap.
Inaugural event organised by Canary Trail Events, a fab trail running events organiser who also hold in November the now infamous The Copthorne Races (10mile/2100ft loops). Super well organised, relaxed event in aid of Save The Rhino and Liver Cancer Research charities.
Cheeky hiking climbs and countless steps giving me perfect training ground for a 2 day back to back training camp weekend, combined with opportunity to test recent heat management training, push the fuelling/hydrations strategies (80g/hr carbs nailed), and crack open the poles too. šŖš»šŖš»šŖš»
Managed to keep it consistent with 2:40 roughly per loop on loop, a 5mins break at half way and a couple of mins for hydration top up at the 5.5mile aid station on each loop. Giving me 8mins of faff time which is not too shabby š. Happy days and bagging the š„ššāāļø was the š on the š!
Really enjoyed the whole experience, great volunteers and well organised. Thank you and highly recommend! šāāļø
